Two-wheeler markets compared: what the latest published numbers show
India, Indonesia and Vietnam lead on volume. But the published figures measure different things, so here is how to read them.
The headline
India is by far the largest two-wheeler market among those we could confirm: about 21.4 million retail registrations and 21.7 million wholesales in FY2025-26. Indonesia follows at 6.4 million domestic sales in 2025, and Vietnam’s market passed 3.4 million.

How to read the differences
- Stock vs flow. The USA figure is registered vehicles in a year, which is not comparable with new-vehicle sales.
- Member vs market. VAMM covers its member companies only. The Vietnamese total market is larger.
- Partial years. The Philippines figure is year to date, so it is not a full-year number.
- Different bodies. Associations, regulators and manufacturers each count in their own way. See Registrations vs sales vs exports.
What this means for exporters
For a two-wheeler exporter, the scale is only the first filter. The next questions are which CC bands sell and which brands lead in each country, which is what ASEAN two-wheeler data and India two-wheeler registration data show at model level.
