What an HS code is
The Harmonized System (HS) is the international classification of traded goods. The first six digits are common worldwide. Countries add digits for their own tariff lines, so eight- and ten-digit codes differ between countries.
Common automotive headings

| 8701 | Tractors |
| 8702 | Buses and vehicles for ten or more people |
| 8703 | Cars and other vehicles mainly for carrying people (including electric-only vehicles under 8703.80) |
| 8704 | Motor vehicles for transporting goods (trucks) |
| 8708 | Parts and accessories for motor vehicles |
| 8711 | Motorcycles and mopeds, including electric |
| 8714 | Parts and accessories for motorcycles and cycles |
| 4011 | New rubber tyres |

Tips for reading trade data
- Check the code level. Six digits compare across countries, longer codes do not.
- Three-wheelers and special vehicles can be classified differently depending on design and use, so confirm with a customs adviser.
- Kits (CKD or SKD) and complete vehicles can sit under different codes.
- Always confirm classification for your own shipments with a customs professional. This page is a general reference only.
